I cannot tell you guys (and gals) all the details due to a particular bias of mine, but there is now a project to add USB support for the Rio Karma under Linux. While the player is still able to use the faster than 1.1 ethernet connectio, USB support would definately be a step up. From what I know, the project is being implemented via mounting a FUSE fs over the Rio's RioFS.
