New China Photobook Portrays Diversity of Chinese People

Tom Carter’s CHINA: Portrait of a People captures diversity of 33 Chinese provinces

Beijing, China – As the 2008 Summer Olympics commence, all eyes are on China. But far from being the celebration envisaged by Chinese leaders, the first six months of 2008 have seen unrest in Tibet, worldwide protests against the Olympic torch and the devastating earthquake in Sichuan.

This attention has raised new curiosity: Who are the Chinese? How do they live, work and play? How much do we really know about the 1.3 billion people who inhabit this vast country?

Life after Loss ~ baby loss forum

This is the story of my wonderful baby, Louis Alexander Santry........
I have been a childrens nanny for the past 20 years. I always knew that one day i would have a baby of my own. I'd given so much love to the children i'd looked after and knew that i wanted to share that with my own baby one day.
I met a wonderful man, and we thought the world of each other. We both felt it only natural to try for the baby we both longed for.
After only one month of trying we were so pleased we had fallen pregnant. To say we were excited is an 'understatement'.
I didn't have an easy pregnancy. I was sick every day, but it didn't stop me smiling. I can remember walking to the local village, (i lived in Ireland at the time), and i was thinking that everyone knew i was pregnant as my tummy stuck out so much. Bless me....i was only two weeks pregnant at the time!!

Beijing Olympic fireworks were digitally faked

Were you floored by the fireworks display at the Beijing Olympics? Turns out an almost 1-minute sequence of the display was digitally faked.

The opening to the Bejing Olympics featured a staggering fireworks display, but those watching at home were tricked into thinking what they saw was real. Some of it was actually CGI.

The fakery was unearthed by a local Chinese newspaper, The Beijing Times, which revealed that a 55-second sequence was created by a visual effects team, which included a series of giant footsteps made by fireworks.

Confusingly, this actually took place in the real ceremony, but the organisers felt that the sequence of 28 footprints would not be accurately captured live, so they faked it.
