Hackaday hacked today

Hackaday Hacked ScreenshotI suppose it was only a matter of time, but it's still depressing to see the defacement of a community resource.

Hackaday has always been geared more to electronics hacking, hardware modification (nay, improvement), and the modding/mash-up community. Having once been at the receiving end of user tip submissions, I could never figure out why it drew such a large community of iHooligans.

Here's the really funny thing about this, though. According to the google cache, this latin hacker is a howto writer.

This really confuses me, because any ya-hoo can deface a website. Why didn't this fellow insert his howto into the post system. Who knows, maybe the good humored folks there would have let it stay.

Either way, I'm curious to see the official P.R. response from Weblogs Inc. There's a fine line that needs to be walked between discouraging future attacks, maintaining street cred for hackaday, and not looking foolish. I know grace and humility is hard to come by when your server has been attacked, though. Nothing feels better than the thought of rolling heads.

Here's a screenshot for the curious. [via samccone]
