Fractal Spin vs. ThinkGeek
Purple Resistor Necklace Atomic Dog Tag
Although I enjoy ThinkGeek's assorted t-shirts, accessories, and other miscellaneous geek items, I always encounter two problems:
1] A disproportionate amount of the items are for the malefolk
2] Many of the items meant for girls, are dare I say, a bit too geeky. We want to nod to our inner geek, not a wear a giant RAM chip hanging from a vending machine quality ball chain. Something tells me it is geek/gamer boyfriends who want us to don this blingy nerdwear of Mr. T proportions...
For bourgie fashionistas like me, Fractal Spin offers an excellent alternative for geekcessories. The jewelry, for example, is of much higher quality, and it maintains a tasteful element of geek without being tacky. The site also offers a large selection of bags, wallets, and watches that are suited for grown-up geeks -- not 14 year old boys who play WoW all day.
The nicest thing about the items at Fractal Spin? They can be appreciated by geek and non-geek alike.
