star wars | no explanation necessary
stargate | everyone loves pyramids and sci fi. (however, the macgyver tv show is just plain embarassing.)

crap can be put into 2 sub categories:
1. the average plot goes something like this: world is under attack by a. aliens b. asteroids c. all of the above, and the united states military [what badasses] are going to use extremely large weapons and their best military [full of cocky bastards and a token buff chick who usually dies] to kick some a. alien b. asteroid c. all of the above’s butt.
there is your main character who provides comedic relief as the earth is crumbling to pieces [hi-larious]. he realizes how much he really likes some girl, and also how much he appreciates life and how much he wants to live. many times this main character dies at the end [wow. shocking]. these movies frequently star will smith, michelle rodriguez, ben affleck etc, etc, etc. the characters are always your stereotypical fill-in-the-blank and lack any sort of substance.
2. shitty movies starring kevin costner.
an abridged list of the crap, points 1 and 2:
independence day | sucked
armageddon | sucked
all other billions of independence day-esque movies | sucked
waterworld | lameitude
the postman | please, i beg of you kevin, stop making movies
t h e . o l d i e s
the day the earth stood still | cool
the war of worlds | ahhahaa. you can see the dental floss holding up the spaceships....classic
m i s c e l l a n e o u s
e.t. | classic
alien/s | this pretty much scared the pants off me as a kid
city of lost children | intense
pi | intense^2
hgtg bbc | i have always been pleased with the bbc version...i am a little nervous about seeing the new one
minority report | could have been good; had some promising aspects but let’s face it, tom cruise is lame
ai | pinocchio in the future. i still don’t know what i think about this, but the movie is worth seeing
mad max | i’m not a fan, but this seems like it should be on the list. i give it an A for effort. Ha
total recall | i am a very political person…so the thought of arnold being governor makes me sick, but on the other hand, i am overjoyed that he is busy doing something besides acting. this could arguably be put in the crap section, but I just didn’t have the heart
i haven’t seen:
thx 1138, the new war of the worlds [*shudders* tom cruise], the new hgtg, signs. lemme know what you thought of these ones

and there ya have it--a large categorized list of sci fi movies.
due to the massive amount of sci fi, i know i have left out a lot, but i think this covers the basics.
