Sarcastic Wednesday

Is Sarcastic Wednesday a holiday I missed out on?  I got the most hysterical ecard from a friend today for Sarcastic Wednesday.  So I googled it, and had about 100 results.  Why am I the last to know?

If you're a cube dweller like myself, you'll love Hallmark's interpretation of Sarcastic Wednesday.

Mr. Men & Little Miss

Do you remember the Mr. Men and Little Miss books?  Does Little Miss Sunshine or Mr. Lazy ring a bell? In my search for finding other sites to create characters (read: waste time), I've found Create your own Mr. Men and Little Miss

Technically geared toward children, and not quite as robust as the M&M maker or the South Park Characters - but a little fun, and a little nostalgia.

Introducing Little Miss MichelleyG!

Become an M&M!

Think you're as hot as the Green M&M?  Or as naive as the Yellow one?

Visiting Hannibal Lector's Native Land

If you're a Silence of the Lambs fan - a tour company in Lithuania is offering Hannibal "The Cannibal" Lector tours.

The tour includes a trip around Vilnius, a visit to a nearby estate for a "Hannibal feast" and a meeting with "Lecter." The cost is $131, or 100 euros.

I'm not sure I want to know what is served at a Hannibal Feast!

On a side note: Today is also Lithuania's Independence Day, 1918.

The Inverse Power of Praise

I was tipped off to this article by a friend.  It discusses the difference between praising your children for being smart, vs. praising them for working hard and how that alters some of the choices they make.

It's a long read, but an interesting read - especially if you were one of the smart kids that didn't really work too hard.  Do you think it made a difference in school?  Do you still think it makes a difference in what you choose to take on?

How about the hard workers...were you jealous of the smart kids, because they just got it and didn't have to work at it?

Vouyer? Check out the zoo...

Curious how different animals mate?  Skip Animal Planet, and the library - instead head to your local zoo.  Several zoos throughout the US are offering Valentines Day Sex Tours complete with Champagne, Chocolate Covered Strawberries, and Sex...well you're not guarenteed to see any animal Jungle Love but you'll leave with a wealth of useless trivia.

Some of the cool things you might learn (Note:  These are taken from the article, so I can't verify the facts are correct.)

* "Whales have like 10-foot-long whatevers."
* "Male pigs have a unique corkscrew endowment and impressive output"
* "Manatees have orgies and do not really care whether their partners are male or female"
* "A male porcupine has only one four-hour window a year to mate -- and they have to proceed very carefully with the female of the species."

Duped Dads Fight Back

This is a little more serious than what's usually out here...I found an article on Time Magazine Online regarding fathers who after they get a divorce from their wives, find out that they are not the baby's daddy.  Sometimes this is when the child is 6 or 7 or even 30.  Do they still have to pay child support?  Current laws, yes.  But there are several states looking into other solutions.

I'm not sure how I feel about it.  I understand the rights of the man who has been duped.  But I also feel sorry for the child.  Can you image if you were 7 years old, and all of a sudden the man you called "daddy" wanted nothing to do with you anymore.  (I know this happens in a lot of cases with the biological father - fortunately, this idea is inconcievable to me). And what about the mother - how does she get off being a poopy head?

Finding Dates Worth Keeping

"Finding Dates Worth Keeping" is the title of a 1 -credit course being offered at the Univerisity of Sioux Falls.

I wonder what type of students will take that class? I wonder how many people will sign up thinking they might meet someone in the class?

Hunter Bags 7-legged Deer

As reported on Yahoo-News, a hunter in Wisconsin got quite a surprise when he hit a deer, which turned out to have 7 legs (4 functioning, and 3 smaller appendages)  The deer also had male and female reproductive organs.

The hunter said of the deer:
"And by the way, I did eat it,  it was tasty."

A Flexible Work Day

A coworker sent me this article about Best Buy's ROWE (results only work environment).

In summary employees come and go as they please.  They can work from wherever they want and whenever they want.  They are measured on their output vs. the number of hours they spend at work.

I think it's an interesting concept, but I'm not sure I'd do well.   I personally enjoy the social factor at work.  I also don't have hobbies and such that keep me from being in the office... you can't arrange flowers while working no matter where you're working from.
