Quick PC Case Facelift

hercules_case.jpgWell, about 7 Years ago I purchased a $70 Antec Computer case with large 250w Power Supply. This has been the case for my main computer since then.

As you can see it is very sturdy (the drawer that is open is the CD Holder), well worth the extra money back then over the $30 dollar ones, except if you want a lan party computer, this with everything installed is about 30 pounds. The case has been through 7 or 8 motherboards, a power supply replacement, 4 video cards, 2 vid capture cards, 3 sound cards(not including ones onboard the motherboards), 4 cd-r/dvd-r drives, about 6 different hard drives, a zip drive, and a floppy.

Its current configuration is:

  • Athalon XP 2500+ with an AS-rock Mobo
  • 1 - 4x dvd+/-rw, not dual layer but I am hoping I can update its bios for it
  • 3 hard drives, all IDE, 120gb, 40gb, 30gb
  • An nVidia GeForce FX 5200
  • An Avermedia EZ DVD capture card (for recording stargate Episodes to DVD)
  • A Soundblaster PCI 512
  • 768mb of ram
  • 1 - 8 slot CD Holder ( sometimes can be used as a cup holder... LOL)

This Facelift for computer requires Dismantling then painting

Here are the parts:
pc_case_parts.jpgIt wasn't too hard 1 can of spraypaint and 2 hours of my time. to take it apart and paint it, wait for it to dry and put it back together... did you notice the blue buttons i painted the buttons blue.

This Facelift is to get ready for the new parts that I will be buying next week, I am getting a MicroATX board, with an Athalon 64 but it does have support for the athalong 64 dual core (Awesome Chip), It has an onboard nVidia 6100 Vid Card, 8 Channel Sound, 4 Sata Ports that can be configured in Raid 5, I am gonna put 3 250GB drives on those, I am also going to put 2 GB of ram in it. I am getting a Multipurpose front panel to go in the empty 5.25" bay, that has a card reader, 2 front usb ports, a firewire port, 2 front panel sata ports(only one will be active) and a dual fan controller.

future_hd_fan_local.jpgWith the dual Fan controller I am going to control An extra rear fan, and a dual fan mod that i am working on to go in 2 3.5" external slots to keep those monster hard drives cool.

I don't want to mod the cover panels just yet since I don't have the actual fans, i wan to make sure i don't mess up the panels.

Well this concludes this edition of Quick PC Case Facelifts, stay tuned for the next edition, Quick PC Case Facelifts, Hard Drive Cooler Edition.
