Beware of the toy snatcher

Last Christmas my dad had given his future grandson, Zachary, a remote control car. As soon as my dad brought out that car, I immediately looked over at wide-eyed Jason and said, "This isn't yours, Jason. You can't play with this until Zachary is born." At the time I wasn't even going to let Jason open the package, but I broke down, and let him take the car for a little spin. Since then the car has been stored in Zachary's bedroom closet...

Well, I was going down to do a load of laundry the other day and what do I see on the basement floor... Zachary's remote control car in pieces! Because of Jason's fascination with toys and hacking them to bits, I determined that, yes, Jason was going to get a lecture about stealing his son's toy.

I ran upstairs and asked Jason what he was thinking. I tried to keep a straight face, but couldn't help but be amused by the guilty look on his face. Jason was justifying the destruction of Zachary's toy by saying, "But I'm hacking the car to make it even better. It's going to be a car that drives itself."

Okay, that's cool, but I hope he doesn't make it a habit of stealing his boy's toys. I'm sure when Zachary is able to speak I'll be hearing, "Mom, dad is hacking my toys again."

i had taken a few pics of the crime scene, but it was too gruesome.

My older brother's inlaws

My older brother's inlaws gave him a remote control truck for christmas one year. The next day we had already gotten a new body on it and they didn't know what to think. He moved to Peru recently and I found it in one of the boxes I inherited; wires and breadboards hanging all over it.

The truck was asking for it

In your... research... did you come across a decent h-block circuit design for controlling the motors? I did some studying online, made a plan, tossed together a parts list, and ran over to the local radio shack, where I subsequently discovered that I couldn't find anything on my list.

I'm trying to make do with an alternate design that uses the few components I could actually find there. We'll see if I start smoking transistors.

I'll Help... Or maybe Not

Well I was thinking about helping you design a low cost robotic system, jason, but if it contributes to your devious and misguided ways of stealing( or do I mean permanently borrowing) from your kids, Maybe not... LOL, Just kidding.

BTW, While reading this post I laughed so loud I disturbed my coworker 50 ft down the hall.

that's right, robogeek... don't participate in J's devious ways. it's not cool to steal from little children. HA HA HA!!! i might have to buy identical toys: one for J and one for zach. it's going to be a very expensive christmas this year : )

Or try this!

Or you could buy one toy intended for Z and let J have at it and it might turn out to be a cooler toy! That way J gets to destroy something and fix it and Z has a cool toy that dad made.

Or just tell J he can't touch ANYTHING of Z's. :)

good idea, but...

that's a good idea, but zach probably wouldn't be able to play with the toys until he's at least 5 years old (or older). the toys might be so advanced that J might not even allow zach to play with them. ha ha ha!!!

i might just have to go with your second option: "Or just tell J he can't touch ANYTHING of Z's. :)"
