Fishermen caught a 990 pounds and 39 feet long squid in Antarctic waters near New Zealand. This is the biggest specimen of colossal squid (Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni) ever caught. A fishery representative claims the squid could make "tire-sized calamari rings".
The squid was eating a hooked toothfish as the fishermen were hauling in their net. The squid has been preserved for scientific study at New Zealands's national museum.
