Norway is planning to build a "doomsday vault" on a remote island near the North Pole that will hold 3 million seed samples.  There are currently 1,400 seed banks in the world, but due to political instability or harsh environmental changes these banks may prove to be insufficient.

The Norwegian government will be paying $5 million to construct the Svalbard International Seed Vault.  The final design of the vault has been unveiled; It will be built into a mountainside and should hopefully withstand any global catastrophes (climate changes, nuclear war), therefore, safeguarding the world's agriculture.
