One of my favorite commercials out there right now is Geico's caveman in the airport commercial. It's a 30-second spot where a 30-something caveman is offended by a Geico advertisement he is passing in the airport. The advertisement states how Geico's website is so user-friendly that "a caveman can do it." The reactions of the caveman are priceless and makes me laugh every time I see it.
The Geico cavemen commercials are so popular that ABC has decided to develop these quirky 30-second spots into a full-on sitcom called "Cavemen". The sitcom "will revolve around three pre-historic men who must battle prejudice as they attempt to live as normal thirtysomethings in modern Atlanta."
Although I enjoy the cavemen commercials, I foresee this sitcom failing miserably. The commercials are short, to the point and comical. Drawing out 30-second spots into half hour shows is a recipe for disaster. Don't mess with a good thing. But what do I know... 3rd Rock from the Sun was a horrible show about aliens trying to fit in on Earth, but that lasted several seasons. Maybe the TV viewing audience loves bad TV? Don't do it ABC.
