Howto: Look good when recruiters google you

So how many times did you google yourself this month?  Probably at least one or two times.  I venture to guess you also googled old classmates or ex-loves.  It's okay.  We've all done it.

So, if you're googling him or her then who is googling YOU.  Don't be surprised if a potential employer asks you about those risque Spring Break photos you posted on your Myspace account at your next interview because anything on the internet is everyone's business.

Don't be caught off-guard.  Here is a howto on how to look good when your recruiter googles you.

The first result that Google

The first result that Google returns that is actually relating to me, and not related to somebody else with the same name, is my 'Cadre profile!

Not that there's a whole lot of info there, but I thought you might like to know anyway.

Same here

It's funny that you say that, Danny, because my first search result in Google is my 'Cadre profile as well.

Although, if I search under my maiden name the first result is this post on 'Cadre. The second result is this from when I used to work with the American Refugee Committee and went to a meeting at the UN. Wow, that was a while ago.

Too common of a name..

My problem is that my name is too common, I could be a baseball player, an actor, professional poker player, long distance runner, etc..

Even putting in my city doesn't help much, the first correct google result is 15th.

Me too!

The Caaaa-der is the first thing on my name and the best part is everything (but the last entry) is actually me. Then after that it gets into foreign sites, thanks to my last name.

And someone with my first name and maiden name is an associate producer. So that could be a bonus for me if old friends are looking for me.

"Why yes, that's me! I'm rich too!"

Until they see my car.

Journalism Editor, Basketball Player and Visual Effects?

I am supposedly a journalism editor, a senior basketball player and I was responsible for the visual effects in Looney Tunes: Back in Action released in 2003.

Google away.

Maybe this is a good thing that I'm not easy to locate.
