On Late Night with Conan O'Brien last night, Conan had made up the URL 'HornyManatee.com' and, for one reason or another, NBC had to buy the domain.

I don't know the whole story so if anybody has more info let us know in the comments.

Update:
Here's the scoop:  Conan adlibbed the site www.hornymanatee.com on his Dec. 4 show.  At the time, the site had not existed and in order to avoid a viewer purchasing the domain and posting inappropriate content that may look like NBC was promoting, NBC purchased the domain in order to control the content.  Here is the full New York Times article.
