The $55 Mac and Cheese

$55 mac and cheese receiptEverybody knows that when restaurants don't list prices on their menus it means the food is expensive.

Well, this guy went to the Waverly Inn in New York and probably thought he was playing it safe by ordering the night's special, mac and cheese.  He gets served mac and cheese and the waiter grates what the guy assumes is cheese on top of the entree.

It turns out the grated stuff wasn't cheese -- it was fresh truffle.  His mac and cheese ended up being $55.

Not quite as bad..

While at training in NY, I had breakfast at the hotel restaurant. I sat down at the table with my colleges, and a waiter approached and asked if I would like some coffee or orange juice. I said sure, I will take both. The coffee was OK, and the OJ was a bit pulpy for my tastes, but also OK.

The surprise was when I got the bill for $15 for the two drinks not including tip!

I still consider that bad! Since when does coffee and OJ cost $15?! Seriously, what gives restaurants the right to charge so much for beverages that are typically so inexpensive.

Too pulpy? I wonder if the OJ was freshly squeezed. They were probably charging extra for the labor! Personally, I hate pulp -- I don't like to chew my drinks.

Boo Hiss
