The Filipino Spoon and Fork

spoon and forkI was paging through a Pottery Barn catalogue the other day and I just about peed my pants.  If you are a Filipino or know a Filipino, you will get a laugh out of this...

Pottery Barn is selling a wall decoration made up of a large wooden spoon and fork for $149.  I have to laugh about this because this decorative piece was most likely designed by a Filipino considering almost every Filipino I know owns a large wooden spoon and fork.  Now, not all Filipinos have these on their kitchen walls, but rest assured, they have a set lurking somewhere in their homes.

Not only do I find it funny that Pottery Barn is selling a decoration that I've always made fun of, but I also find itbarrel man funny that there are suckers out there that are willing to purchase it for $149!  Seriously, if anybody wants a large spoon and fork just let me know--I'm going to the Philippines this summer and can purchase a set for you for $5.  (Oh, I can pick up some naughty barrel men for you too.)

I'm not the only one who noticed this rip-off.  By looking at the date of her post, Marie noticed Pottery Barn's ad last year.  Great find!

Classic

I don't think it's a rip-off. If they did the barrel-man, then we can all yell.

My Filipino friend cracked

My Filipino friend cracked up laughing when I showed him this. His wife is always making fun of him for having them on the wall. Great find.

a kitchen doesn't feel like one without the set. Seriously, if people are willing to pay that price for them, you should get a bunch when you visit the Phillipines, then sell em on ebay!
