People I first meet often ask me, "Where are you from?" I tend to be a smartass and reply, "I'm from Wisconsin." They usually respond with an "Oh" accompanied with a puzzled look on their face. It's obvious to me that they are expecting me to say an exotic place like Japan, Thailand, the Philippines or California; I look different so, of course, I have to be from another country, right? I usually have to follow-up with, "My parents are from the Philippines. I was born and raised in Wisconsin.... blah blah blah." Don't get me wrong, I do take pride in my background, but when you ask me where I'm from, shouldn't I say, "Wisconsin?"
Another popular question that I am asked is, "What are you?" Uh... okay. I won't go there...
I think I have the eye for picking out other Filipinos from the crowd, but I'm completely clueless when it comes to other nationalities, especially Asian nationalities. When Jason stumbled upon this link I had to take this opportunity to post it on BlogCadre. Take the test and see if you are able to pick out the Japanese, Koreans and Chinese. I did horrible!
