While pursuing his doctoral degree, Ben Fry created the zipdecode to familiarize himself with how zip codes work in the United States.  As you gradually type in a zip code you can see how the location is determined by viewing the map.  Very cool. 

I found myself on the map in Minneapolis, MN.  I was hoping I would pop up in Hawaii, but no such luck.
