I always love seeing the new Apple products. The suspense as your now obsolete machine boots and loads Safari to surf to Apple.com to see what's new.
This time we have the MacBookPro..
The PowerBook line is on it's way out! Viva la revolution!
With a frontside bus that runs at 667MHZ, and the PCI-express architecture, it's the best PowerBook ever, that leaps above and beyond what came before it.
When I got my brand new 12", it just seemed as if it would never get old... oh well. I couldn't imagine it would someday be like the Lombard G3 powerbook I previously had.
Oh, and did I mention that the MacBookPro has Front Row and a built-in iSight! The display is 67% brighter, and has a power adaptor that snaps in place magnetically.
You can check out the specs here.
But what don't I like about it? There must be something. There is always something.
The lack of the internal modem! It has a seperate USB external modem. I suppose I've never used the internal modem on my 12", but some might, and find this loss annoying. Oh well.
The new iMac is supposedly twice as fast.
Nothing much has changed here that I see, except for the Intel CPU.
There's also a small gadget that gives the 5g iPod FM radio capability, and doubles as a headset/remote.
iLife gets the odd new feature, and iWork still remains the same except for the addition of iWeb, a web authoring tool.
10.4.4 is out, (but not in my Software Update yet), I'll tell you if there's anything importantant in it.
Pro Apps: Will be translated into Universal Binaries. If you have the PowerPC only versions, you can upgrade to the universal versions for US$49.
And that's just about it. If I missed anything important, feel free to flame me in the comments.
