Credit crisis will cause a housing shortage as economy recovers

A housing shortage will likely be another effect of the housing bubble, despite the housing market crash, foreclosure epidemic, massive unemployment and all the other hardships fade. Once the U.S housing market crashed and took the remainder of the economy down with it, banks stopped home loaning, home buyers stopped purchasing and home builders stopped constructing. Even apartment construction has dried up. Even with an emerging shadow market of foreclosures, a housing shortage in 2011 is forecast when a growing population exceeds available shelter.

Quicken Online users may have no choice but to migrate their personal financial data to Mint.com as of Aug. 29. Nobody can go to Quicken Online anymore after that. Mint.com was bought by Intuit who made Quicken for about $ 170 million. In February, Intuit sent a message to Quicken Online users that their account histories and connections would be "migrated seamlessly" to the Mint budgeting site. Because of software differences, users are expected to transfer their own accounts individually. The Quicken Online to Mint migration has proven to be troublesome and inconvenient.

This girl is so darn cute!

Flight attendant Steven Slater apparently was fed up after working for 20 years in the customer service business.

Slater was working on a flight from Pittsburgh that had landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, when he was hit on the head by a bag a passenger was pulling out early from an overhead compartment.

According to the New York Daily News, words were exchanged and Slater's reaction was to blow his top. He spewed profanity at stunned passengers, grabbed a beer and activated the plane's emergency slide, then bolted off the plane...

JetBlue reported the incident, but police did not arrive until Slater had left the scene. He was arrested at his beachfront home in the Rockaways.

Slater was reportedly smiling when police led him away in handcuffs and when he was later charged with reckless endangerment and criminal mischief.
Every workplace should have an emergency escape slide.  Seriously.

Silverfish Hand Catch

If you haven't been browsing under a rock for the last two days, it's likely you've been watching an impressive campaign running across Facebook, Twitter and Youtube featuring the Old Spice Guy delivering, in almost real-time, personalized messages to just about anyone that asks him a question.

In the final video, he signs off with the phrase "Silverfish hand catch." I could be reading too much into this, but I'm wondering if this was intentionally written in not only for its humorous, non-sequitur punch, but as a unique tracking phrase. It's not so easy to misspell, and googling the phrase in quotes (and paging to where repeat posts get cut off) provides a quick-and-dirty mechanism for seeing how many people have blogged about a specific detail of the campaign.

Perhaps we'll see random phrases become a part of every viral video campaign.

An old friend found this posted on a bulletin board.  Funny yet scary at the same time.  Would you volunteer?  (Thanks, Sara!)
