Take 20 sips of water.
My wife gets them all the time, she has me put my fingers in her ears while she drinks an 8oz glass of water from a straw. Hope it works for you...Joel
About 10 years ago, I too had hiccups everyday usually around mid day. One of my co-workers who was of indian decent showed me how to get rid of them. Stand in front of another individual and have them put their hands out, palm side up, you then place your hands palm side down right on top of theirs. Wait for approximately 3-5 minutes without removing your hands. Anyway this has worked for me ever since. If I'm out shopping or whatever and hear someone with hiccups, I ask them if they would like to get rid of them and then show them how. They are always surprised and I was. It does work. Give it a try. cl

A chiropractic adjustment may be very helpful to alleviate the condition. The nerves that supply energy to the diaphragm may be very irritated. All nerves originate from the spinal cord and extend from there into organs, muscles and tissues. If the vertebrae are maladjusted they can put pressure on the spinal cord and / or nerves.
While many people only think of chiropractic for "back problems," our family has had great luck with chiropractic for various conditions since the nerves go everywhere!
This condition is an unconscious driven behaviour NOT a Physical one, so the best way to treat this girl is Hypnotherapy. The unconscious mind is generating this pattern and this is where the cure is found. (the best PHYSICAL cure is to get a cup of water and lean right over and drink from the otherside of it, gulping in air at the same time, messy but in my case 100% affective) The clue is it stops when she talks, if it was physical the hiccups would be constant and interrupt her speech. I personally have treated a case of this sort, and the releif is instant! PLEASE SOMEBODY GET THIS INFO TO HER because the poor girl is suffering needlessly! Hypno therapy comes from the mystical works of witchcraft and should be avoided like you avoid demons. It is rediculous that so many in a Christian nation are turning to the ways that promote spiritual destruction. Science dwelving into witchcraft does not make it any less than witchcraft.
My cousin had exactly the same problem. She couldn't stop for days and days! She was finally taken into the hospital and left waiting in a room full of people. The doctor comes out to see her and in front of everybody starts yelling and shouting things like "Do you wanna stop this crap!!!", grabbed her by the shoulders and finally gave her a good old slap in the face. She was litterally shocked by the experience and stopped with hiccups right there and then. That was it no more silly hiccups for her!
Good luck
hello, I had the same exact problem for 1 week and in the beginning everyone was laughing at me.after trying everything, I cured myself just by not eating anything and drinking very few water. I noticed as long as I did'have anything in my stomach the hiccup was gone. the first day I didnt have anything at all excpt, as I said, water. the second day I ate very little and in small pieces. by the third day I noticed I could have more food without having any negative response from my body. by the fourth day I was back to normality.
Turn your palm up and cup your hand so that your focus becomes the center line of your palm. This may take up to ten minutes but no matter how much you hickup keep staring at the center line. Focus on the line nothing else. Do not let your eyes wonder any where except the center palm line. I get the hickups a lot and this focus method tends to work.
Good Luck,
If you don't have allergies to peanuts you may want to try 2 Tablespoons of peanutbutter then wait 2-3 minutes then have a couple small sips of water. I've had good luck with this remedy in the past and hope it will work for you. Cathy
An Italian doctor Dr. Bilotta working in Hospital Umberto I (Rome) found a solution for some hiccup-ill people by an injection of a particular medicin. I'm not a doctor so read very well the link and ask your doctor for further informations, I hope it could be useful for you.

I'm a clinical psychologist w/ a specialization in behavioral medicine and have used a technique called EFT with all manner of emotional AND physical symptoms, i.e. personally lowered my cholesterol over 100 pts, relieved heartburn, headaches, increased my ability to stretch, etc. EFT is easy to learn, quick to do, doesn't involve anything unpleasant, and the information is free. EFT involves tapping on various points on the face and body while focusing on symptoms. I'd be happy to work w/ her if she'd like to contact me at: letoilematin@yahoo.com . I've personally found that it helps to have someone skilled walk one through it. Check-out-able at the main website: www.emofree.com or via a couple of other websites containing the basic info: www.tapintoheaven.com or www.celebrationhealing.com . Both of these have charts, instructions, and I think Rebecca Marina's site has sample audio files.
I hope Jennifer sees this, and I wish her all the best in letting go of what must be very hard to experience.
Count the hiccups. I don't know anyone who has made it to 100. I suspect that the reason this works is that, if you're with someone else, you end up laughing harder and harder with each successive hiccup, which probably does something to break the pattern.
have someone stand in front of you, close enough so they can pull your ear-lobes down. while they are pulling down your ear-lobes, drink a large glass of water without stopping
works for me every time! -Meg
OK, this is sloppy, but it works for me every time.
Put a pencil horizontally accross your mouth and bite down with your back teeth as firmly as you can so it doesn't move. With the pencil in place, drink an entire 8 oz glass of water. Half of the water will run down your neck, but if you try very hard to drink most of it with the pencil firmly between your back teeth, it should work to get rid of your hiccups.
Good luck.
Along with countless suggestions, I sent mine and I'd just like to know if it has been attempted. I learned about it years ago from a professional bartender! One night when some of us were celebrating a friend's birthday, this young lady came in with what seemed to me to be as severe case of hiccups I had ever witnessed. I told her I might be able tp help her and she explained how many hundreds of 'remedies' she had tried. I finally convinced her to at least try what I was offering .....get one glass or cup of ice water, strike a wooden match or 2 book matches and immerse into the ice water then immediately drink the water. Her hiccups vanished! She hugged me even though she had never met me. I believe it is a reaction to the sulphur in the match but whatever it is, it always works for everyone I know of who tried it. Give it a shot (you only have to drink a little of the water) and let me know if it works. I don't get hiccups very often but when I do, they do hurt and I grab my big box of kitchen matches for my "sulphur cocktail" and the hiccups stop! My name is Carol Goodwin and I have ten grandchildren. They think my ideas are great and I hope you will like this remedy. You won't need a doctor.
Jennifer you HAVE to try this! There are certain pressure points on your neck about half way between your chin and ear lobes slightly below your jaw line. Apply pressure to these two points with your fingers while holding your breath and either drinking three sips of water of just swallowing three times. It's a little tricky because you have to get the exact points, but once you do the hiccups will go away! This works every single time without fail!
Please try to wear a deep red colored shawl or undergarment touching the skin in the chest and neck area. He says this is due to a lack of red rays in the body consitution.
He also suggests that she drinks red colored drinks (like tomato juice or red wine).
All the best

Haloperidol is not for children

Instant Hiccup Cure OK I know Jennifer must be dizzy from the acrobatic cures, all flushed with all of the water-cures, and hyper from the complex carbohydrates ingested (i.e. sugar, etc.) to date. Thank God she's not a Diabetic! The peanut butter must be starting to stick to her palate by now. She has tried literally everything I'm sure! But one method I'm sure she hasn't tried yet. It involves a massage technique (which she has expressed she is open to) or direct manipulation or stimulation of the Vagus Nerve which is one of the nerves involved her singultus (i.e. hiccups) scenario. This has been found by an emergency room doctor in Tennessee [USA] to cure singultus INSTANTLY. It has been used worldwide successfully. However, it is a last resort technique as it is kind of private and a bit embarrassing for some BUT quite effective. It can be performed by a doctor during an office visit or you can do it yourself with the appropriate privacy and proper antiseptic protection equipment (i.e. Playtex glove). Go to this website for more information on it: http://cj22.com/hiccups
If anyone tries this documented and Nobel Prize winning anti-singultus technique please post the results of how fast the hiccups stopped and quantity of application - twice within a few hours was the documented record. This should become hospital E.R. S.O.P. worldwide for severe intractable singultus patients.
This must totally suck. Well here's another "remedy" to try. I always tend to get the hiccups if I eat too fast things like french fries or bread. I take a cup that holds at least 8oz of water but more is usually better. The top of the cup should be big enough only to fit around the outside of your mouth, if its too big you won't get the vacuum required and you get water all over you and everything :( One of those taller tupperware cups works well the large size. Fill the cup almost to the top with water. Put the cup over your mouth including the surrounding face. Slowly start bending over forward(SLOWLY) and take small to medium breaths through your nose, pay attention as not to let it come out your nose. Slowly keep drinking small gulps of water as you are leaning forward and down. The object is to release the air trapped in the diaphram and force it out slowly as you drink the water. Repeat a few times then maybe hold off for a while if it doesn't work right away. You don't want to get water logged. Probably try by yourself as if you have someone in the room, they have a tendency to make you laugh and then it doesn't work. Good luck!!!
I recently read an article in the Houston Chronicle - a gentleman wrote in to say he got rid of his hiccups by eating green olives, one at a time. When I was a little girl, my mother used to get rid of our hiccups by holding our ears while we drank a big glass of water - I see that another person suggested this earlier in the blog - I'll pray for you Jennifer!!
I don't know if you've tried either, but one thing that worked well for me was drinking a 20 oz bottle of Dr. Pepper extremely slow. It has to be Dr. Pepper, no immitations. You may also try seeing a hypnotist. I know it may sound scarry, but hypnosis has been known to treat all sorts of illnesses.
Her condition must be driving her insane! I certainly hope it's a temporary ailment but perhaps it's a mild form of Tourette's Syndrome. The nonstop hiccups resonate most similarily with the involuntary tics symptomatic of Tourette's, in my nonprofessional opinion. Hiccups begin with the contraction of one's diaphragm muscle, and Tourette's may well be characterized by involuntary motor and vocal tics. What do you think?
Presuming you're ready to try just about anything, I wonder if you've considered an extreme sauna. It'd be a lot easier in the cold country, but you could try building a hut with a wood stove, heat it to about 120 degrees, stay in there a half hour or more, then immediately dive into a pool of ice water at least neck deep. Perhaps the local spa could provide such conditions. In any case, I think the shock-to-the-system approach is the right one. Good luck
Hi Jennifer,
This is Sam from Windsor, Ontario, Canada. I¡¯m writing to you on behalf of my mother Mrs. Chui who's a fortune-teller and Fung Shui expert; she noticed your problem yesterday on the news. She told me that she's 95% confident that she can stop your hiccups; since she successfully helped a neighbor stopped his hiccups a few years ago. Please reply if you're willing to accept her help. Thanks.
Please email to: mrschui@hotmail.com
Take a large swig of worchestershire sauce (maybe even a whole shot). It shocks your body so much that they go away.
Are all these messages for real??
you betcha.
A simmple yet effective way to get rid of the hiccups is this: Force it ! It's just like forcing a burp. You think you'll throug up but you won't. Figure out how your body makes the hiccup. Usually from your stomach upwards. Then copy that and force to hiccup. Several hiccups later you can't force it anymore nor do you get the hiccups again. It works for me. Good luck ! Danny
What will sometimes help against the hiccup is to shock the one who has it by yelling boeeeee or somthing else.........
Hello, Jennifer. I'm so sorry for your predicament. My 17 yr old daughter gets them for a whole day at a time. Hers is generally triggered by dehydration or lack of food. That does not appear to be your problem.
Have you tried this website http://www.peoplespharmacy.com/archives/editorial/hiccup_remedies_show_ingenuity.asp? It might help.
The other suggestion I have is to sip some camomile tea. It is a natural sedative, so it might help you sleep, but it also has anti-inflammatory properties which will relieve the pain. The newest medical information is that it is more effective than NSAIDS (ibuprophen, aspirin, Advil, etc.) It might just relax you enough to stop the hiccups. I have had quite amazing results with it on my relatives, and even horses in pain. It does work on pain. I don't know if it will help with hiccups, but it can't hurt.
All the best, Pam T.
Bent forover and drink water. It always helps.
is that hicups is an anti peristical movement of the gullet and stomach. When you bent forward and have a dink of water, is not easy to do but you can, you force this moving of the gullet the opposit way. Good luck,
Mike, The Netherlands.
The method of holding my breath and taking [x] number sips of water (usually 10-12) works for me only if I take a deep breath before holding it and sip the water SLOWLY. This also works with doing a deep exhale first. While this method is much like the others, sometimes the small variations make a difference. I started doing this when I was Jennifer's age (a long time ago), and it always works immediately.
Breath in as much air as you can, then hold you breath for as long as you can. Contract your abdominal muscles to put pressure on your thoracic cavity as you hold your breath.
im sorry to hear of your current problem.my daughter and i will send a video to you showing you what we do when she gets the hiccups...it has worked for several years and recently did it to myself and it worked...who knows, im sure its worth a try....phil & devin
This is a simple technique that works for me, and everyone I've told about it. I hope it works for you too!
~ Take a deep breath, and hold it for 8-10 seconds ~ Swallow twice (while still holding your breath) ~ Slowly exhale
Good luck!
Hey girl! You poor thing.... This is the cure... Take a regular drinking glass add water to the glass. Place a paper towel over the whole top of the glass. Now, slowly sip the water through the paper towel from the glass. Good luck girl--this is the suggestion that has never failed for any one in my life.
While the Hiccups are going:
you need to have someone perform the Heimlich Maneuver
you may need to try several times
do not do after a meal---empty stomach only
This will push the diaphram up in a forceful way-----will re-boot system
make sure the person knows what they are doing
good luck
I don't know if this will work, but from what I've read above, it certainly couldn't hurt. I'm a big fan of the Food Network's "Good Eats," and tonight's (02/28/07) episode was on herbs. In it, the host (Alton Brown) said that chewing on mint leaves is alleged to relieve hiccups. (I haven't tried it myself, as I rarely get hiccups and drinking from the opposite side of a glass works for me.)
As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, February 28, 2007, Jennifer's hiccups suddenly and mysteriously stopped. Link.
Why not try a diet that will make her look healthy. She really looks puffy and unhealthy. I wonder if she has indigestion as well. The mother may want to try getting her on a raw food diet, or juicing the veggies and fruits if she won't eat them. It is amazing what happens at the cellular level when you give your cells food that actually build them up. Toxic diets like the one in the picture can contribute to many symptoms because the body becomes overlaoded with toxins and the cells can't breathe properly to burn energy and cells have no building materials to divide healthy. It is just common sense to feed your body foods that are living and healthy for the body. Processed packaged foods are depleted of minerals and enzymes and are full of presevatives and toxic chemicals. Is it any wonder our kids are all looking swollen and tired.
Eat three marachino cherries all at once. (no Stems) Works every time.
In the 1940's my Mother had TB. She had some treatments for it and at that time the doctors clipped a nerve in her chest. The doctors did not want her to have the hiccups for some reason that I have long forgotten. They told her she would never have hiccups again. She lived another 50 years without ever having them. Probably an extreme measure for young Jennifer to take, but, something for her to look into if an extreme measure is necessary.
I'm sorry to hear that your hiccups have returned.I am not a doctor or nurse, but I worked as a unit secretary in a hospital for many years.I remember we had a couple of patients with intractable(non-stop) hiccups. Both of those patients were treated with Thorazine which is a psychiatric drug but it will stop hiccups. This is obviously something you need to speak to your doctor about.I don't know if this will work for you,but it's worth discussing with your doctor. If I remember correctly, both of these patients were cured after one dose. I hope you get some relief. Sincerely,Lisa Hines llcoolhines@comcast.net
I had the hiccups for the 3 days once, I can't imagine what Jeniffer Mee is going through. This has worked on everyone I know who has tried it and they all truly agree this is THE CURE for the hiccups. I rarely get them anymore and if I do I can easily make them go away within a minute or two. It's a simple breathing technique and it works pretty fast - http://www.nohiccups.com good luck!
I had the hiccups for six years. I went thru all the tests and was sedated and tranquilized to stop it. Nothing really worked. Then a new doctor had me take a simple prilosec and they have stopped completely. I hope it helps you. I know what you are going thru.
Hi Jennifer, I heard about your problem and my remedy works for me and my wife everytime. Also its a lot of fun and crazy. Here is what you do.....
LAUGH OUT LOUD!!!! I mean hysterically, crazy, throw you head back and laugh like you never laughed before. Have your friends and family join in. The important thing is that you push the air out of your lungs. Do this for about 2-3 minutes non-stop and you will lose your hiccups. Hope this works.
I'm not sure how to approach this subject but I always thought of Jennifer whenever my newborn had the hiccups. She is two and a half months now and suckling always stopped them for her. I don't know how this would be translated into an adult's case but in my baby's case it ALWAYS worked.
My prayers are with her. I hope she gets cured completely.
