Do you own a gun?

hmm.

these options seem a little charged. i mean, i won't ever own a gun, but hate is a strong word. i could probably say i hate handguns and assault weapons, but that's a different thing from a hunting rifle or a shotgun. well, unless you hang out with the cheney.

i recommend changing the options to plain and simple yes/no. let people elaborate in the comments if they desire.

good idea

i admit, i am biased on the subject. i'll change the options.

NO!

I didn't see the original poll - but based on Jason's comments. I think I would have liked it. :) I am scared to death of guns! So I'd put my distaste for guns on the VERY STRONG bordering HATE side of the equation. That being said...I don't mind RESPONSIBLE people having them. i.e hunters, protection in your home, law inforcement. I just don't want to see them.

Exactly!

It's the irresponsible gun handlers that I freak out about and there is no doubt in my mind that there are a lot of those people out there.

What about the irresponsible car drivers?

In 1996 there were 34,040 (18,166 were by suicide) deaths caused by guns in the United States.
In 1999 there were 41,169 deaths caused by automobile accidents in the United States.

Which should you be more worried about?

BAH!

Ryan, why do you have to be difficult? Couldn't you let us just be happy with guns are bad? :)

I think there is a difference in using a gun with the intent to kill, maim, injure some one vs. an auto accident where there was not intent.

I am concerned about the people who use guns to harm people - the end. I am also concerned about irresponsible drivers who drive under the influence (alchol, drugs, etc). What percentage of your numbers on auto related deaths are attributed to drunk drivers or people who inteded to kill someone?

I'm not sure I'm making my point very clearly - I hope you can follow my mixed up ramblings.

Michelle

yes

the right to owning a gun is in the constitution it's a RIGHT not to be debated or infringed. those of you who don't want guns don't buy them its very simple. if your afraid to be shot by a gun i have two choices you could walk around in full body armor for the rest of your life or you can buy a gun.
its a fact owning a gun increases your chance of killing yourself or a family member by 2x. owning a car increases your chances of killing a person or yourself 500x maybe more. if you argue your a good driver im just going to tell you I'm a good gun owner. if you care so much about making a impact on saving lives ride a bike.
