Walking with Dinosaurs, The Live Experience

The show depicts the dinosaurs evolution spanning their entire 200 million year reign. The history of the world is played out with almost cinematic realism, including scenes of the daily interactions between dinosaurs. You will see how carnivorous dinosaurs evolved to walk on two legs, and how the herbivores fended off their more agile predators.

Kids are so wonderful. They get you excited about things you never used to think twice about.

Parrot found, tells veterinarian where it lives

Tokyo police found an African grey parrot. The parrot was transferred to a veterinary hospital where the parrot eventually opened up and recited its owner's name and street address.

He kept mum with the cops, but began chatting after a few days with the vet.

"I'm Mr. Yosuke Nakamura," the bird told the veterinarian, according to Uemura. The parrot also provided his full home address, down to the street number, and even entertained the hospital staff by singing songs.

"We checked the address, and what do you know, a Nakamura family really lived there. So we told them we've found Yosuke," Uemura said.

The Nakamura family told police they had been teaching the bird its name and address for about two years.

William Singalargh of New Zealand was arrested for assault with a weapon after throwing a hudgehog 16 feet at a 15-year-old boy. Singalargh could face up to 5 years in prison if charged.

The victim suffered several puncture marks and a large, red welt on his leg. The hedgehog was found dead. Authorities are unsure if the hedgehog was already dead or if the impact caused its death.

Link.

Artist starves dog and calls it "art"

Artist Guillermo Habacuc Vargas caught a dog from the street, tied it up in his exhibition gallery, and starved it to death. He had told those visiting the gallery not to feed the dog. After several days the dog eventually died. During that exhibition, Vargas was chosen to represent his country in the Bienal Centroamericana Honduras 2008. Link

Not only is the "artist" sick, but also those who viewed the exhibit and did nothing to help the starving animal.

Update: from digg:

There has been a huge deal of outrage over a story that shows an artist who starved a dog to death as his art exhibit. But according to the museum director, they were actually feeding the dog and eventually released it. They simply wanted to prove that people are sheep.

Animals in the womb

These images had made the internet rounds a while back and I still think they are as amazing as when I first saw them.

Using new technology, these images, published in UK's Daily Mail, reveal what until now has been a secret - exactly how animals develop in the womb. They were created by the same team who in 2004 showed how human embryos "walk in the womb".

Using a combination of three-dimensional ultrasound scans, computer graphics and tiny cameras, the team were able to show the entire process from conception to birth.

The whale was spotted last month while scientists aboard the Oscar Dyson, a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration research ship, were conducting an acoustic survey of pollock near Steller sea lion haulout sites.

It had been spotted once in the Aleutians years ago but had eluded researchers since, even though they had seen many of the more classic black and white whales over the years.

Due to global warming, pythons may start finding northern states as desirable habitats.

"Burmese pythons — an invasive species in south Florida — could find comfortable climatic conditions in roughly a third of the United States according to new 'climate maps' developed by the USGS," the agencies reported. "Although other factors such as type of food available and suitable shelter also play a role, Burmese pythons and other giant constrictor snakes have shown themselves to be highly adaptable to new environments."
