A couple weeks ago, one of the paste-up tables here at work was filled with hundreds of t-shirts. They were mostly identical, except that each one had a slightly different stencil on it, and some had the bottoms removed or a hole punched in them. I've been curious what they were doing.

It turns out that they were making a stop-motion, flipbook-style commercial for Erberts and Gerberts. Each frame of the video is on a seperate t-shirt, and the model wore each t-shirt successively, filmed by a normal mini-dv camera. When the video is digitally sped up, you get a nifty animation.

The folks who were working on this were cool enough to film the whole process of making the video. You can see the production process and maybe spend a weekend making a stop motion video of your own.

Talent behind Pixar's character creations

Meet one of the talents behind Pixar's blockbuster films -- Designer Jason Deamer created memorable characters in such movies as 'Finding Nemo' and 'Ratatouille'. Starting off by fetching sandwiches and making copies, Deamer climbed his way up the Pixar ladder and became one of four character designers for 'Ratatouille' and is currently the character director for the upcoming feature animation 'Wall-E'.

Homestar Runner Stays True to Web... TV Denied

Homestar Runner creators Matt and Mike Chapman are staying true to the web and rejecting TV series offers by both Cartoon Network and Comedy Central.

"There was a brief flirtation with Comedy Central and Adult Swim," Matt said. "The whole TV thing seemed creepy. They wanted to plug it into their model -- that all comedy was gag-related, not character-driven. They left the door open, but we liked what we were doing and kept doing it online."

With Time Warner's Cartoon Network and Adult Swim also headquartered in Atlanta, it seemed natural for Homestar to jump in with them. But a deal has failed to materialize, and the Chapmans are in no hurry to strike up conversations again.

PSST! Pass it on puts out amazing original short films...

The mission of PSST is to produce original short films through the collaboration of different teams of designers, directors, and animators. Each film is comprised of three sections produced by three different teams. This process is the whole idea behind PSST! – a technique derived from the Dadaist game of Exquisite Corpse and the children’s game Telephone and applied to the arts of motion graphics, animation and film-making.

In July 2006 PSST released six films and this year, March 2007, they released nine new films. All films are available for download on their website.

Which Springfield will get the 'Simpsons' premiere?

Springfields across the nation are competing for the chance to host the premiere of "The Simpsons Movie".

Fox publicist Gwyne Ortiz said Fox has asked 16 Springfields from Oregon to Massachusetts to participate.

Fox will pick the winner after reviewing short film entries showcasing the community's positive aspects and links to the Simpsons, who live in their own fictional Springfield.

Which Springfield will it be? I guess we'll have to wait and find out.
