A human foot found on coast of British Columbia, 6th this year

A human foot encased in a running shoe was found along the shorelines of the Strait of Georgia, southwest of Vancouver. This is the second foot encased in a running shoe found this week and the sixth within a year.

Authorities say they haven't reached any conclusions about the origin of the feet but are working to determine if there are any links to any other partial remains recovered in the province.

"Too my knowledge, we have not encountered anything like this," RCMP spokeswoman Annie Linteau told The Associated Press Wednesday evening. She declined to speculate if foul play was involved.

History of Typography in the Toronto Subway

Joe Clark wrote an interesting and extensive article, Inscribed in the Living Tile - Type in the Toronto Subway, on the history and degradation of typography in the Toronto Subway.

The Toronto subway has a typographic heritage all its own, starting with a unique font. But, with renovation after renovation and after a series of new station additions, signage and wayfinding in the system are a total mess. The latest “standard” in Toronto subway signage uses fake Helvetica and is a clone of Massimo Vignelli’s work from 40 years ago.

It's a long read, but an interesting one. [via digg]

On a road trip to... somewhere

We are flying by the seat of our pants... My little family is going on a road trip out east and our plan is to end up in Vermont. We don't know how long it's going to take us because this will be Zach's first road trip so, who knows, we may just end up at the end of our block. If all goes well, we will be driving to the Canadian-side of the Niagra Falls and spending some time there and then heading over to Vermont to visit a friend.

I don't know what my connectivity will be like while we are gone, but I will definitely post some notes from the road if I can. I hear the cornfields of Iowa are beautiful this time of year.

Previously:
We're heading to Maker Faire, San Francisco
Vacationing in the Philippines
