glowingskeleton illustrated a series of one thousand illustrations of beasts which will be appearing in the the Fantagraphics art book Beasts! Volume 2 later on this year.

Jason bought Beasts! last year and it's actually quite a fascinating and eclectic book. The art book describes mythical beasts from around the world and the illustrations were provided by various talented artists.

BlogCadre pal and contributor, Naomi Valdivia of beenznrice was inspired to create a piece of art after reading a CNN article about a Chinese officer named Jiang Xiaojuan:

This is a portrait of Officer Jiang Xiaojuan who, in the midst of the Chinese Earthquake disaster, is a nursing mother of a 6 month old, and nursed at least 9 babies who found themselves with no parents. Her selfless and maternal act made me think of the Virgin Mary and what her symbol means. When I read the article and saw her picture, she even looked like the iconic figure, so I was moved to create this piece for it.

This piece can be purchased for $20 over at Etsy. All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross China Relief Fund.

Crabfu's Swashbot 3

Crabfu has designed yet another Swashbot, called Swashbot3. It's still a three-legged robot based on R/C helicopter eccpm swash control, but this Swashbot has a more organic design. Check out the video here and photos here. (Thanks, I-Wei!)

I have to agree, it does look like Jesus on the cross! That would totally put me at peace if it were my ultrasound. I had a similar experience when I was pregnant which is why I think I like this story in particular.

"Monet Sledge, from Lorain, Ohio, got an ultrasound in preparation for her first baby and was shocked when she saw what appeared to be an image of Christ on the Cross, the Web site reported." LINK.

Animals in the womb

These images had made the internet rounds a while back and I still think they are as amazing as when I first saw them.

Using new technology, these images, published in UK's Daily Mail, reveal what until now has been a secret - exactly how animals develop in the womb. They were created by the same team who in 2004 showed how human embryos "walk in the womb".

Using a combination of three-dimensional ultrasound scans, computer graphics and tiny cameras, the team were able to show the entire process from conception to birth.
