111 shirtless males invade Abercrombie and Fitch

The folks over at Improv Everywhere recruited 111 males of all shapes and sizes to walk around shirtless -- at one time -- at the Fifth Avenue Abercrombie and Fitch store.

Agent Nguyen came up with the idea for this mission when he noticed the 5th Avenue Abercrombie and Fitch store had a shirtless male model greeting all customers as they enter. Upon further examination, we discovered the model is only one aspect of the store’s celebration of the shirtless male. There are photographs all over the store of bare-chested men, both on the wall and on the products themselves.

Scientist grows dress from cellulose woven by bacteria in vat of fermenting wine

Gary Cass, an Australian scientist, grew the "cave woman" design dress from cellulose woven by bacteria in a vat of fermenting wine.

The "cave woman" design dress must be kept wet because the cellulose fibers are not long enough to be flexible and, as it dries, they become brittle and break.

In order to shape the dress, slimy cellulose is scooped off the surface of the fermenting wine and layered around a blow-up doll. It then shrinks, taking the form of the body. The doll is deflated when the dress is in the right shape.

"This is art; it is not meant to be practical," inventor Gary Cass told Reuters on Wednesday.

"It is meant to be a provocative object, to spark debate about future fashion," said Cass, a scientific technician at the University of Western Australia in Perth.

Although I enjoy ThinkGeek's assorted t-shirts, accessories, and other miscellaneous geek items, I always encounter two problems:

1] A disproportionate amount of the items are for the malefolk

2] Many of the items meant for girls, are dare I say, a bit too geeky. We want to nod to our inner geek, not a wear a giant RAM chip hanging from a vending machine quality ball chain. Something tells me it is geek/gamer boyfriends who want us to don this blingy nerdwear of Mr. T proportions...
