Lost scenes from "Metropolis" found

Lost scenes from the legendary silent film "Metropolis" were discovered in Buenos Aires.

ZEITmagazin has now reconstructed the story of how the film nevertheless managed to survive. Adolfo Z. Wilson, a man from Buenos Aires and head of the Terra film distribution company, arranged for a copy of the long version of “Metropolis” to be sent to Argentina in 1928 to show it in cinemas there. Shortly afterwards a film critic called Manuel Peña Rodríguez came into possession of the reels and added them to his private collection. In the 1960s Peña Rodríguez sold the film reels to Argentina’s National Art Fund – clearly nobody had yet realised the value of the reels. A copy of these reels passed into the collection of the Museo del Cine (Cinema Museum) in Buenos Aires in 1992, the curatorship of which was taken over by Paula Félix-Didier in January this year. Her ex-husband, director of the film department of the Museum of Latin American Art, first entertained the decisive suspicion: He had heard from the manager of a cinema club, who years before had been surprised by how long a screening of this film had taken. Together, Paula Félix-Didier and her ex-husband took a look at the film in her archive – and discovered the missing scenes.

The Cube, Jim Henson's work before the Muppets

Here is an interesting and mind-screwing film called "The Cube" directed and produced by Jim Henson prior to his focus on the Muppets. The film stars Robert Schaal as "The man in the cube".

This philosophical teleplay covers many themes such as, the nature of reality, individual versus scientific perception, self-reference, man's relation to others and society, insanity, social projections, and race relations. It originally aired on NBC's weekly anthology television show NBC Experiment in Television February 23, 1969. The production was produced and directed by Jim Henson, and was one of several experiments with the live-action film medium which he conducted in the 1960s, before focusing entirely on the Muppets and other puppet works. The screenplay was co-written by long-time Muppet writer Jerry Juhl (who also appears in a cameo).

PSST! Pass it on puts out amazing original short films...

The mission of PSST is to produce original short films through the collaboration of different teams of designers, directors, and animators. Each film is comprised of three sections produced by three different teams. This process is the whole idea behind PSST! – a technique derived from the Dadaist game of Exquisite Corpse and the children’s game Telephone and applied to the arts of motion graphics, animation and film-making.

In July 2006 PSST released six films and this year, March 2007, they released nine new films. All films are available for download on their website.

No Greater Love, an Excellent Journey Pictures production

No Greater Love is a short film directed by an old friend whom Jason and I used to work with while in school.

James Choiniere and family uprooted themselves from Minnesota to California to live their dreams of directing films, acting and starting their own production company. They started Excellent Journey Pictures.

Their short film, No Greater Love, was submitted to the On The Lot reality TV show premiering May 16, 2007. Put together by Steven Spielberg and Mark Burnett, the show is meant to showcase 16 aspiring filmmakers and give one lucky filmmaker a $1 million DreamWorks development deal. The 16 filmmakers chosen to be on the show depend on the votes, comments and popularity of the filmmakers' films on the officlal On The Lot website.
