Lost scenes from "Metropolis" found

Lost scenes from the legendary silent film "Metropolis" were discovered in Buenos Aires.

ZEITmagazin has now reconstructed the story of how the film nevertheless managed to survive. Adolfo Z. Wilson, a man from Buenos Aires and head of the Terra film distribution company, arranged for a copy of the long version of “Metropolis” to be sent to Argentina in 1928 to show it in cinemas there. Shortly afterwards a film critic called Manuel Peña Rodríguez came into possession of the reels and added them to his private collection. In the 1960s Peña Rodríguez sold the film reels to Argentina’s National Art Fund – clearly nobody had yet realised the value of the reels. A copy of these reels passed into the collection of the Museo del Cine (Cinema Museum) in Buenos Aires in 1992, the curatorship of which was taken over by Paula Félix-Didier in January this year. Her ex-husband, director of the film department of the Museum of Latin American Art, first entertained the decisive suspicion: He had heard from the manager of a cinema club, who years before had been surprised by how long a screening of this film had taken. Together, Paula Félix-Didier and her ex-husband took a look at the film in her archive – and discovered the missing scenes.

My husband and son would kill for this robot model of Gort from the movie "The Day The Earth Stood Still" that is up for auction on eBay.

Ths eight-foot-tall animatronic model of Gort, the robot from The Day The Earth Stood Still, is currently up for auction on eBay. According to the ad, "the robot hasn't been activated in years." So be careful! Current bid is $4051. From the auction listing:

* Created by Fred Barton Productions, Inc., hand assembled in the USA.
* Originally purchased from FBP, Inc., in 2003. Since then it has been on public display.
* Full size fiberglass reproduction. High quality, durable construction.
* Originally equipped with tilting visor with sound effects.
* Animatronics controlled by an infrared remote control.
* Dimensional specifications were obtained from the original robot.

Akira being made into live adaptation

It's true. "Akira" is being made into a two-part live-action movie. The movies will be adapted from Katsuhiro Otomo's graphic novel more than the original 1988 anime movie. The first movie is set to be released summer 2009. Link.

Talent behind Pixar's character creations

Meet one of the talents behind Pixar's blockbuster films -- Designer Jason Deamer created memorable characters in such movies as 'Finding Nemo' and 'Ratatouille'. Starting off by fetching sandwiches and making copies, Deamer climbed his way up the Pixar ladder and became one of four character designers for 'Ratatouille' and is currently the character director for the upcoming feature animation 'Wall-E'.

Which Springfield will get the 'Simpsons' premiere?

Springfields across the nation are competing for the chance to host the premiere of "The Simpsons Movie".

Fox publicist Gwyne Ortiz said Fox has asked 16 Springfields from Oregon to Massachusetts to participate.

Fox will pick the winner after reviewing short film entries showcasing the community's positive aspects and links to the Simpsons, who live in their own fictional Springfield.

Which Springfield will it be? I guess we'll have to wait and find out.
