8 Things You Must Do If Your Identity Is Stolen

There is nothing more scary than having your personal identification or credit cards lost or stolen.  Hopefully you will never need to use this information, but here are 8 things you must do if your identity is stolen

One tip that I would add at the top of this list is to be proactive and track your credit card expenses weekly.  Don't wait for a phone call from your creditor.  We are able to track our expenses through an online service so when we had our credit card number stolen we noticed immediately that fradulent expenses were made and were able to act quickly.

Identity thieves don't need to physically steal your wallet or purse to steal your identify so track your expenses regularly so fradulent charges don't unknowingly pass you by.

torn up credit card applicationPurchase your paper shredder today because tearing up your junk credit card applications into itty-bitty pieces may not keep identity thieves away, especially if they have some patience and scotch tape.

This guy decided to conduct a little experiment.  He decided to tear up a credit card application into small pieces, tape the application back together, fill out the application and apply for a credit card.  After a few days he received a brand-spanking new credit card!

Aren't credit card companies wonderful?

Credit for the College Student

Credit is a dangerous game for the typical college student. You're working part time for low wages, you've got no credit to begin with, you've got college loans looming overhead, and you need a new futon because your drunkard roommate went on a barfing expedition last night. Whoopee! These are the best years of your life!

Students, you have two things going for you: 1) your college loans are interest free right now and 2) you're living in cheap squalor... errr, a dorm.

The trick to establishing credit is never being in debt and never paying interest. In fact, you should make a little extra interest by using a card correctly. Nope, that's not a typo. Here's how.
