BlogCadre pal and contributor, Naomi Valdivia of beenznrice was inspired to create a piece of art after reading a CNN article about a Chinese officer named Jiang Xiaojuan:

This is a portrait of Officer Jiang Xiaojuan who, in the midst of the Chinese Earthquake disaster, is a nursing mother of a 6 month old, and nursed at least 9 babies who found themselves with no parents. Her selfless and maternal act made me think of the Virgin Mary and what her symbol means. When I read the article and saw her picture, she even looked like the iconic figure, so I was moved to create this piece for it.

This piece can be purchased for $20 over at Etsy.  All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross China Relief Fund.
