The Children's Defense Fund has announced their presidential candidate, Susie Flynn, for 2008.  Why 10-year-old Susie Flynn?  Because she is running for president on one issue:  health care for all children.

My name is Susie Flynn. I am running for President of the United States of America to help the nine million children who have no health insurance. This is a crisis. These children have been let down, yet the people accountable are doing too little to solve it. By running for President, I intend to make everyone in America aware of the issue so that it will no longer be ignored. Under your next President, every child in America must get the health insurance he or she deserves.

Kentucky congressman William Preston Taulbee was part of a scandalous newspaper article in 1887 where he was accused of having an affair with a lady known as Miss Dodge.  Written by Washington correspondent for The Louisville Times and Kentucky native, Charles Kincaid, the facts in the article were and still are debated.  Whether or not the two gentlemen despised each other before the story ran, rest assured their relationships blossomed into pure hate after the article went public.

I'm unsure if it was due to the scandal, but Taulbee did not seek re-election and became a lobbyist.  The two men would bump into each other at the Capitol building and exchange unkind words over the next two years.  Their last meeting occurred on Feb 28, 1890:

25 Gunmen suspected to be part of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) stormed a prison in Kidapawan city on the island of Mindanao by blasting a hold in the prison's wall and freeing 47 of its inmates.

Many of those who were freed face serious charges, such as murder and kidnapping.

Several had been found guilty of carrying out bombing campaigns for the Islamic separatist group the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

Military spokesman Colonel Julieto Ando told reporters that he thought the MILF "most likely had a hand" in the jailbreak.

But rebel spokesman Eid Kabalu denied that his group had anything to do with the incident.

The MILF - which is campaigning for self-rule in the southern region around Mindanao - is currently supposed to be observing a ceasefire with the government.

Governor Emmanuel Pinot ordered police to shoot the inmates if they resists arrest.

Ayiti: the Cost of Life is one of the best political web games released this year, right up there with The McGame and the comic genius of Airport Security. You control the activities of a Haitian family trying to get by, the experience is like Oregon Trail meets Wyclef Jean ("if I was president..."). Health, education, community service and just making ends add up to a compelling strategy game thats easy to play but hard to beat.

Unlike most games with a political message, such as September 12th or 3rd World Farmer, Cost of Life actually has a strategy that works, but it's buried in a heap of revealingly faulty approaches. The balance of the game's randomized elements shows the designers subtly imbued their message; where health risks can be marginalized and hurricane disasters rare, unlike 3rd World Farmer's frustratingly even spread of bad luck that ensured you'd lose it all every few turns.

In North Carolina a man successfully purchased $150 in groceries at a Food Lion in Roanoke Rapids using a counterfeit $200 bill bearing George W. Bush's face.  You would think a $200 bill with a portrait of George Bush and lawn signs in front of the White House would tip the cashier off, but apparently the cashier gave the unidentified male $50 in change.
