EnterActive

enteractiveElectroland's latest project is EnterActive which is located on 11th and Flower in Los Angeles.  (Now I have no idea where that is in Los Angeles, but I thought I'd mention it in case our L.A. 'Cadre guests want to check it out.)

This project consists of a luminous field of LED lights embedded into the entry walkway that respond to the presence of visitors; a massive display of lights on the building face that mirror the patterns of the entry; and video displays in the lobby and entry areas.
While you're at it, check out their other proejcts as well -- very cool stuff.

Dot Matrix Watches

dot matrix watchesHere's a must have...  Check out these dot matrix watches:

So deliciously designed that they're almost edible (despite missing many of your RDA vitamins), these leather wristband watches are studded with a matrix of black LEDs that, at the touch of a button, do a funky kind of Mexican wave scroll effect and then display the time in classic Dot Matrix style - and a second press will display the date. Available in tan leather with yellow lights, or black leather with red lights, the Dot Matrix's can display both 24hr and 12hr time, and has a built-in power saving mode, so the time or date is automatically switched off after three seconds. They may be low in calories, but these leather strapped Dot Matrix watches are exceedingly high in style.
Just looking at these watches will make you say, "I_want_one!"

LED Bonsai Tree

LED bonsai treeTake a look at this bonsai tree.  It's made out of 128 PCBs, 1152 LEDs, 256 resistors, and 200m of solid core cable, and powered by a 4A DC power supply.  Very cool.

This is much cooler then the USB turd he made.

Electro-graf

electro-graf An electro-graf is a graffiti piece or throw-up that uses conductive and magnetic paint to embed LED display electronics.

Here is a complete DIY (pics included) on how to make your very own electro-graf.

LED Bed Design Improvments (Part 2)

Well its been a couple days and I have completed the current design of the LED bed Adaptive color controller.

Therory of operation:
1. A set of 3 photo-diodes each tuned to red, green, and blue light will convert light into voltage.
2. A 2-stage Amplifier circuit for each color(red, Green, Blue, and White) will provide the control to a FET
a) the first stage is an inverting amp with a -1 gain.
b) the second stage is set up as a voltage controlled Current Source, using the Amp and the FET
3. The current source will change current based on the output voltage from the Photo-Diodes.

LED Bed Design Improvments

Well I was going around hack-a-day today and saw the "led pimp bed" article. Well I decided to take the challenge of designing the adaptive color controller. But first I wanted to make a few design improvements to the LED module itself

First, I drew out the schematic.
