It's true. "Akira" is being made into a two-part live-action movie. The movies will be adapted from Katsuhiro Otomo's graphic novel more than the original 1988 anime movie. The first movie is set to be released summer 2009. Link.
Ajinbayo Akinsiku is presenting the Bible in a whole new way, graphic novel style. From the NY Times article:
Mr. Akinsiku says his Son of God is “a samurai stranger who’s come to town, in silhouette,” here to shake things up in a new, much-abridged version of the Bible rooted in manga, the Japanese form of graphic novels.
“We present things in a very brazen way,” said Mr. Akinsiku, who hopes to become an Anglican priest and who is the author of “The Manga Bible: From Genesis to Revelation.” “Christ is a hard guy, seeking revolution and revolt, a tough guy.”
"He took the ultimate drift... into another dimension."
Where an expert in dino-pictography drift races to unravel the truth behind his brother's mysterious disappearance, fulfilling the prophecy and crossing between dimensions... into the world of the dinos.
Forget flux capacitors. I'm downshifting the automatic on this one, bro.
I was pretty impressed with Kanye West's new music video which retells the anime classic, Akira, to the audio backdrop of Daft Punk's "Stronger." Kanye plays the part of Tetsuo, the emotionally unstable youth who is struggling to manage an increasing power that is out of his control.
The mashup works extremely well, though I would have loved to see Tetsuo's signature uncontrolled mutations instead of popular music's obligatory uncontrolled hot dancing woman.
