My Project on "Futureweapons"

MMW
Wow, I am actually posting something...

A project I have worked on for over 2 years is being featured on the Discovery Channel's "Futureweapons" Show. It has already aired but I have put a copy of it on vimeo. (See the Video After the Break.)

I designed 5 custom Circuit boards, many cable harnesses, and assisted in the mechanical design for 3 motion systems on the MMW side of the Vehicle.

Kid assaulted with a hedgehog

William Singalargh of New Zealand was arrested for assault with a weapon after throwing a hudgehog 16 feet at a 15-year-old boy.  Singalargh could face up to 5 years in prison if charged.

The victim suffered several puncture marks and a large, red welt on his leg.  The hedgehog was found dead.  Authorities are unsure if the hedgehog was already dead or if the impact caused its death.

Poll: Do you own a gun?

My recent post about Armed America: Portraits of gun owners in their homes got me thinking about the BlogCadre community.  How many of our readers own a gun and what are their reasons for owning one?

I've put together a quick poll in hopes that it will continue the conversation we started in my Armed America post.

Do you own a gun?

Armed America imageArmed America is a collection of photographs taken by Kyle Cassidy of gun owners in their homes.

The question of gun ownership in America is a fractious one. Even the number of guns in the country is in significant debate. The National Rifle Association (NRA), the country's largest pro-gun lobbying group, quotes the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE)'s estimate that in 1999 there were about 215,000,000 guns in America and one gun in about half of the households in the country. The Brady Campaign (the nation's leading anti-gun coalition) estimates there are 192,000,000 guns in America, owned by 39% of the population.

Gun Control

From Scott Kildall:

gun controlGun Control is an electromechanical installation, which explores underlying issues of both security and surveillance. Each of the four units incorporates a police-issue revolver and a small video camera. As people move into the installation space, the cameras track the movement and the guns follow.

However, the technology is imperfect. The cameras do not always function properly. The revolvers point at different targets. They sometimes twirl about playfully. The armatures shake and rattle. We are directly in the line of fire. This piece raises questions about our security-surveillance apparatus by prompting a visceral reaction.
