Nursing Home Cat Can See Dead People

Oscar the Cat senses deathOscar the Cat seems to sense when residents of the Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center are in their last two hours of death.  He has been at the besdside of more than 25 residents before their deaths.

"It's not that the cat is consistently there first," Dr. Joan Teno, a professor of community health at Brown University, who sees patients in the unit. "But the cat always does manage to make an appearance, and it always seems to be in the last two hours."

Raised at the nursing home since he was a kitten, Oscar often checks in on residents, but when he curls up for a visit, physicians and nursing home staff know it's time to call the family.

"I don't think this is a psychic cat," said Teno. "I think there's probably a biochemical explanation," she said in a telephone interview.
Can you imagine the fear the residents are feeling when they see that cat coming?  "I'm coming for you next, pops.  Meow."  Yikes.

Two Face Kitten

two face kittenBack in July, a kitten was born with two faces -- four eyes, two noses, and two mouths.  Even though occurrences like this one are rare, veterinarians say the cat may be just fine.

As I was searching for the current condition of this "rare" kitten I came across another news article regarding a kitten born back in June with the same condition.

Am I just really tired and misinterpreting the information in the articles or are there really two cats born within a month of each other with this "rare" condition?  Ohio -- Oregon.  Gemini -- Tiger.  June -- July.  You guys decide.

Anywho, here is a video of the two-faced kitten.

Buy your 'hypoallergenic cat' today!

hypoallergenic cats'Hypoallergenic cats' have been specially bred by Allerca, a US biotech firm, and are now up for sale for $3,950.

There was no genetic modification involved:

It tested huge numbers of cats trying to find the tiny fraction that do not carry the glycoprotein Fel d1 - contained in an animal's saliva, fur and skin - which often prompts an allergic reaction in humans.

Those cats were then selectively bred to produce the hypoallergenic kittens now on sale, the company says.

The company's Steve May told the BBC that it was a natural, if time consuming, method.

"This is a natural gene divergence within the cat DNA - one out of 50,000 cats will have this natural divergence," he said.

"So candidates - natural divergent cats - were found and then bred so there is really no modification of the gene."

Don't expect to get your special cat quite so soon because there is already a long waiting list to have one.
