The Muppet Matrix

The Muppet MatrixI never thought I would see Kermit the Frog as a gun slinging, kung fu fighting bad ass.  The Muppet Matrix is The Matrix done Muppet style.

"Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is.  You have to see it for yourself."

Seriously, you have to see this video to believe it.

Classic Wilkins Coffee Jim Henson Ads

Henson Wilkins AdAfter posting the Yip-Yips, I did more reading about Sesame Street and Jim Henson, and stumbled upon these classic 1960s Wilkins Coffee ads, which starred Jim Henson's muppets.

...The greatly increased exposure led to hundreds of commercial appearances (mostly for Wilkins Coffee) by Henson characters through the 1960s.

Being puppets, they have been able to get away with a greater level of slapstick violence than might be acceptable with human actors. A good example is one of the early coffee ads. A Muppet is poised behind a cannon seen in profile. Another Muppet is in front of the barrel end of the cannon. The first Muppet says, "How do you feel about Wilkins Coffee?" The second Muppet responds gruffly, "Never heard of it!" The first Muppet fires the cannon and blows the second Muppet away... then turns the cannon directly toward the viewer, and ends the ad with, "Now, how do you feel about Wilkins Coffee?"
Here are several videos containing the classic ads:

Sesame Street Memories: Yip-Yips skits

yip-yipsRemember those aliens who would occassionally visit Sesame Street?  The Yip-Yips were probably a couple of my favorite characters on the block.

The Yip-Yips are characters on the popular children's television show Sesame Street. They are interplanetary visitors, presumed to be from the planet Mars and used to be terrified by things like clocks, telephones and computers. When frightened, they would cover their eyes with the lower part of their jaw.

In their skits, these creatures, with squid-like tentacles, large eyes, and antennae, materialize into a room and say, "Yip-yip-yip-yip... Uh-huh. Uh-huh," in monotone voices. They often come across common objects and, curious as to their names and functions, the Yip-Yips will consult a book presumably containing information about things on Earth. In one skit, for example, the Yip-Yips call a computer a television and a typewriter before deciding what it actually is.

They are "yip-yipped" by multiple muppeteers including Jim Henson, Frank Oz, Jerry Nelson, Martin P. Robinson, and Kevin Clash.

I found a couple skits from way back that some of you may remember.  If you thought they were hilarious back in the day, you will still get a kick out of them today.

If anybody can get their hands on the 1975 radio discovery skit please share it with 'Cadre.  That skit was a definite favorite...  yip-yip... uh huh.
