Why You Should Switch Email Providers
Here are some key reasons why it‘s worth upgrading from Jetpack‘s basic subscriptions:
-
Email marketing drives sales – According to HubSpot, emails generate $44 ROI for every $1 spent. Email is the most cost-effective marketing channel.
-
Advanced features – Top providers offer more custom templates, automation, analytics, segmentation, and deliverability. Jetpack lacks these.
-
Scalability – Jetpack isn‘t built to handle huge email lists. Popular providers can scale to millions of subscribers.
Having used Jetpack for several years myself, I‘ve found it to be very limiting as a list grows. The advanced features of other providers have allowed me to take my email strategy to the next level.
While there is an added cost, the ROI makes it totally worthwhile. You‘ll be able to send more relevant and engaging emails leading to more sales.
Comparing Email Service Providers
Here‘s an overview of key capabilities of the top providers:
| Provider | Segments | Automation | Templates | Analytics | Deliverability |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Constant Contact | ✅ | ✅ | ✅✅✅ | ✅✅ | ✅✅ |
| AWeber | ✅✅ | ✅✅✅ | ✅✅ | ✅✅ | ✅✅ |
| Drip | ✅✅ | ✅✅✅ | ✅ | ✅✅✅ | ✅✅ |
| Mailchimp | ✅✅ | ✅✅ | ✅✅✅ | ✅✅✅ | ✅✅ |
Constant Contact is fantastic for beginners but can feel limited for advanced users.
AWeber has the most powerful automation bar none. It‘s perfect for advanced segmentation.
Drip shines for ecommerce stores with its focus on conversion tracking and cart flows.
Mailchimp sits in the middle, offering a good mix of features and ease of use.
I‘d suggest AWeber or Drip for larger, more advanced email programs. Mailchimp and Constant Contact are great for simpler email newsletters.
How to Export Jetpack Email Subscribers
The first step is to export your subscribers from Jetpack:
- In your WordPress dashboard, go to Jetpack > Settings
- Click the Discussion tab
- Scroll down and click View your Email Subscribers
- In the new page, switch to the Subscribers tab
- Click the 3-dot menu and choose Download email subscribers as CSV
This downloads a CSV file containing all of your subscriber emails that can be imported anywhere.
Pretty straightforward right? Now let‘s go through importing into specific platforms.
Transferring to Constant Contact
Constant Contact is my recommended starting point for beginners due to its simplicity. And it still provides great templates, automation, and analytics over Jetpack.
Here are the steps to import your subscribers:
- Sign up for Constant Contact and activate your account
- In your dashboard go to Contacts > Add Contacts
- Click Upload from file and upload the Jetpack CSV
- Map columns to contact fields
- Check the box to confirm email consent
- Click Upload to complete the import
It doesn‘t get much easier than that! They provide a terrific onboarding experience for new users.
My only gripe is some of the automation feels less advanced than other providers. But it‘s certainly a major step up from Jetpack.
AWeber – The Automation Powerhouse
If you‘re looking for advanced segmentation and behavior-based workflows, I always recommend AWeber.
I‘ve been able to create highly personalized subscriber journeys using their automation tools. The level of customization is outstanding.
Here is how to import your Jetpack subscribers:
- Sign up for an AWeber account
- Go to Subscribers > Add Subscribers
- Click Import Multiple
- Upload your Jetpack CSV file
- Map columns to fields
- Select import options
- Click Submit Your Import
AWeber has some of the best deliverability around, meaning your emails are more likely to reach the inbox.
The only downside is some of the admin panels feel a bit dated. But the power under the hood can‘t be beat.
Drip – Ideal for Ecommerce
For ecommerce stores, I highly recommend using Drip over Jetpack. Their platform is tailored for converting leads into loyal customers.
Drip makes it easy to track purchases back to emails, target subscribers who abandoned their cart, and create personalized post-purchase journeys.
Here is how to import your list:
- Create a Drip account
- Go to People > Active
- Click + Add People
- Select Upload a list of people
- Upload the Jetpack CSV file
- Map columns to fields
- Click Add these people
The biggest benefit of Drip is the seamless integration with your store‘s order data. This powers automations based on customer lifetime value, order history, products purchased, and more.
While Drip may not be the right solution for beginners, it‘s a must for established ecommerce stores.
Mailchimp – The Most Popular
You can‘t talk email marketing without mentioning Mailchimp. It powers over 15 million email accounts making it the most widely used provider.
And for good reason – Mailchimp strikes a great balance between ease-of-use and advanced capabilities.
Here are the steps to import your subscribers:
- Sign up for Mailchimp
- Go to Audience > All Contacts
- Select Import Contacts
- Choose Upload a file
- Upload the Jetpack CSV file
- Organize and match columns
- Click Complete Import
Mailchimp is a terrific all-around solution. My biggest complaint used to be the lack of site integration, but they‘ve improved on that front recently.
While not as automation-heavy as AWeber or Drip, the flexibility and friendly interface makes it suitable for most use cases. And the reporting is top-notch.
Migrating Away from Jetpack
If you‘ve outgrown Jetpack‘s limitations, switching providers is a breeze. Follow the steps in this guide to export your list and import it anywhere.
I recommend Constant Contact for beginners and Mailchimp for simplicity. AWeber is the choice for segmentation and automation. Drip for ecommerce stores.
No matter where you import your list, you‘ll gain access to more advanced capabilities that Jetpack simply doesn‘t offer.
Let me know if you have any other questions! I‘m happy to help you find the right email marketing solution as you scale your business.
